On October 19, the village Văleni, from Cahul, received the distinction “Best Tourism Villages” 2023, during the 25th General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). In the international competition organized in Uzbekistan, 260 localities from 60 countries registered, writes the Ministry of Culture in a press release.
The selection was based on an assessment of resources and initiatives in nine areas covering the three pillars of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental.
“This award honors us, being proof of the great tourism potential of our country. The recognition of the village of Văleni in this prestigious competition supports the authenticity, traditions and hospitality of local communities and stimulates the development of rural tourism in our country,” said Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan.
The village of Văleni also stood out internationally thanks to the participation of Văleni’s grandmother, with “Zdob și Zdub”, in 2006 Eurovision Song Contest.
