DAY TRIPS
“Return to the USSR”
On the footsteps of the “Soviet communist model” and the Red Army!
The Republic of Moldova was Soviet for almost 50 years and that has left its mark, one is Transnistria. And why not an excursion to the pro-Russian separatist region of Transnistria? A little return to the USSR for a day, to say “I was there”…, to discover a territory without territory…, a country without a country…
The political situation being still complex today with Moldova, the tension is palpable but not dangerous for a foreign tourist. Visiting Transnistria is possible, because it is not instinctively against tourism.
Take a little virtual tour, watch the video below and come and learn the history of Transnistria with us!
* Reservations required 48 hours in advance with our travel agency.

More about Transnistria
More about this tour
The place is atypical in every way.
This thin strip of land in eastern Moldova (just 70 km from Chisinau, the capital of Moldova) has had a rare status for 27 years. No member state of the UN recognizes the Moldavian Republic of Dniester (commonly known as Transnistria). This country does not officially exist in the eyes of the international community; although it exists de facto. It has its own army, police, flag, anthem, currency and government.
Even Russia, with which it is extremely close and economically dependent, has failed, for geopolitical reasons, to recognize Transnistria as a fully-fledged state. The only Transnistrian “embassies” are in two other pro-Russian states experiencing the same isolation, South Ossetia and Abkhazia, self-proclaimed independent after two armed conflicts between Georgia and Russia in 1992 and 2008. As you can see, Transnistria is eminently geostrategic.
