UNESCO Recognition and Moldova’s Unique Charm

UNESCO has included the Mărțișor holiday on its list of masterpieces of intangible cultural heritage. Moldova, located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, is a land of vineyards and ancient monasteries. Here, time seems to slow down, allowing visitors to savor every moment. Spring in Moldova is not just a change of season. It is a real awakening of nature and culture. If you dream of a journey full of authentic emotions and traditions, come to Moldova!

What is the Festival Mărțișor?

March is the time of the colorful Mărțișor. These amulets are made by twisting white and red threads of wool, cotton, or silk. People believe they protect against misfortune and announce the arrival of spring.

Moldovans give Mărțișor to each other as symbols of good luck and health for the season. The red thread represents love and luck, while the white thread stands for purity and innocence.

A Festival that Connects Generations and Cultures

The first International Music Festival Mărțișor took place on March 1, 1967, in Chisinau. Since then, it has become an annual tradition, held from March 1 to March 10.

For more than 50 years, the festival has brought together generations and cultures through music. For two weeks, top artists from Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, and other countries perform on the best stages in Chisinau, Balti, Orhei, and other cities.

A Wide Range of Musical Styles and Festive Activities

The festival offers everything from traditional folk music, rich in history, to modern compositions that create new traditions. Besides concerts, colorful craft fairs brighten the event. Visitors can buy unique souvenirs and learn about traditional crafts. Cozy cafés invite guests to taste delicious Moldovan dishes.
