When to visit the reserve?
Plaiul Fagului is beautiful in every season, and we organize excursions all year round, every day (by prior reservation):
In spring (April–June) – the forest comes back to life, the first flowers bloom, and birds fill the air with song.
In summer (July–August) – lush vegetation, cool shade under the trees, and the chance to spot wild animals near water sources.
In autumn (September–October) – golden and crimson colors in the forest, mushroom season, and mild weather for comfortable walks.
Trip Organization
Departure time and location:
Excursion departure: Chișinău (the meeting point will be specified upon reservation)
Departure time: 9:00 AM (schedule can be adjusted upon request)
Transfer: Comfortable transportation from the meeting point to the reserve and back.
Program in the reserve:
Duration: 2-hour guided hike on the main trail
Return to Chișinău: around 2:00 PM (for the standard visit)
Excursion format:
Individual excursions: starting from 1 person
Small groups: up to 10 participants for greater comfort
Personalized approach: possibility to adapt the itinerary to your preferences
Family groups – special routes for parents with children (recommended age for children: from 6 years old).

A Paradise Corner in the Codru Region!
The "Plaiul Fagului" State Nature Reserve was established on March 12, 1992, with the goal of preserving, restoring, ecologically regenerating, and studying the forest ecosystem of Codru.
The total area of the reserve is 5,520.0 hectares, and it is protected by the state. The landscape diversity includes narrow ridges with deep valleys, steep slopes, lakes, and crystal-clear springs. It is here that the Bîc River and several streams originate. The most famous spring in the natural area, "The Fountain of the Three Sisters," is renowned for its healing properties according to local folklore.
The vegetation of the reserve includes approximately 720 species of vascular plants, 151 species of fungi, 48 species of lichens, and 65 species of mosses. Among these floral species, 77 have become rare, representing about 33% of the rare species of spontaneous flora in the Republic of Moldova. 25 plant species are listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova.
The fauna is represented by 211 species: 140 species of birds, 49 species of mammals, 13 species of reptiles, 13 species of amphibians, and 65 species of soil invertebrates, including: red deer, fallow deer, wild boar, pine marten, wildcat, badger, ermine, squirrel, bat species, Eurasian eagle owl, and barn owl.
The reserve is a true natural reservoir hosting a great diversity of plants and animals, offering unique opportunities for active recreation.
