Parliament of the Republic of Moldova© Voyages Moldavie
The city of Chișinău, the capital of the Republic of Moldova, is situated on seven hills near the Bîc River. This area has been inhabited since the Paleolithic era, with some of the most significant archaeological discoveries relating to the Geto-Dacian culture (4th–1st centuries BC) and the Chernyakhov–Sîntana de Mureș culture (3rd–4th centuries AD).The first documented mention of Chișinău as a settlement dates back to July 17, 1436. During the Middle Ages, the surrounding territory was already densely populated. Between the 15th and 17th centuries, several new settlements emerged near Chișinău, including Buiucani, Hrușca, Vovințeni, Văsieni, Geți, Munciești, and Scinoasa. Over the 19th and 20th centuries, these gradually became suburbs of Chișinău.
Moldova is a country rich in history and cultural heritage, with a people known for their cheerful spirit, resourcefulness, and hospitality. The declaration of independence on August 27, 1991, gave Chișinău special political, administrative, and cultural significance. Over its 585-year history, the old rural agglomeration of Chișinău has undergone a complex evolution, marked by dramatic and sometimes tragic events. Today, the city is actively developing and striving to fulfill its role as the capital of a modern European state.
The must-see of this tour are the Cricova caves:
The Cricova tourist complex has been named Destination of the Year in the Republic of Moldova. The award was presented at the "Destination of the Year 2025" ceremony, a competition organized in Romania in which Moldova also participated.
Cricova Winery © Voyages Moldavie
Founded by the USSR in the 1950s, Cricova is a renowned Moldovan producer of dry and sparkling wines, located approximately 15 km north of Chisinau. Most Moldovans can't imagine New Year's Eve without a bottle of Cricova wine. The Cricova wine cellars are the second largest in Moldova, covering a total area of 120 km.
Today, Cricova boasts several tasting rooms, some of which are impressively "presidential." Cricova houses remarkable collections of fine wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy, Tojac, and other wine regions. For example, it houses the infamous private collection of Field Marshal Goering, a Nazi official with a passion for wine and luxury goods. During World War II, he collected the finest wines plundered from territories occupied by the victorious Red Army. This collection was divided into two parts: one went to Cricova, the other to Crimea. The Cricova collection includes numerous parcels of wine dating back to before 1945, such as a 1938 Château Talbot.
