On May 6, 2025, Gagauzia will celebrate Hederlez with great splendor – a traditional folk festival that marks the arrival of spring and symbolizes the unity of the Gagauz people.
This celebration of Hederlez is deeply rooted in ancient history, closely tied to the cycle of agricultural work. According to tradition, this day is dedicated to rituals for a bountiful harvest, festive gatherings, and the promotion of traditional crafts.
The name “Hederlez” originates from Turkic languages (Gagauz/Turkish) and is an adaptation of the combined names of Saints Hizir (protector of spring) and Ilyas (protector of waters).

The main spring celebration, HEDERLEZ GAGAUZ YADA 2025, is one of the key events for tourists and lovers of Gagauz traditions.
Tasting Gagauz cuisine remains especially popular with visitors: gözleme, kırma, and other authentic dishes offer a true gastronomic discovery.

In the city of Ceadîr-Lunga, the “At-Prolin” equestrian farm will welcome visitors from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The festival program includes: folk group performances, a crafts fair and exhibition “Halk Ustalar”, traditional games and Gagauz wrestling, workshops, festive entertainment, a gastronomic area with local specialties, a solemn opening ceremony, and equestrian shows.

The horse races are one of the most spectacular highlights of the festival.
Riders showcase their mastery of djigitovka (equestrian acrobatics), and the winner will receive a traditional prize: either a hand-woven carpet or a young lamb.

The National holiday offers visitors a chance to fully immerse themselves in the authentic culture of the Gagauz people, discovering ancient traditions, traditional crafts, and a cuisine carefully preserved by the local community.
It is a unique opportunity to witness how the customs that shape the identity of this people are passed down from generation to generation.
